Why Gold-Filled?
Gold-filled jewelry has 100x more gold alloy than gold-plated. With a much thicker layer of gold, gold-filled jewelry lasts longer and is more durable than gold-plated. It is a more economical option to opt for over solid gold, but can withstand more wear and tear than gold-plated. Gold-filled does not tarnish and is hypoallergenic.

Check out the comparison of gold-plated vs. gold-filled vs. solid gold:

Gold-Plated
Contains 0.05 or less gold
Inexpensive options that often render themselves for a broader selection of designs. Chosen more for looks over durability. However, many gold-plated pieces do not last long and the thin gold layer rubs off easily. Not safe in water.

Gold-Filled
Contains at least 5% gold
With a thicker layer of gold, gold-filled pieces are harder to make and design options tend to be more limited. These are great quality, long-lasting, durable options for those who do not want to spend hundreds for solid gold.

Solid Gold
High quality but expensive. Prices can fluctuate to reflect the price of gold on the market.
